Celebrate Recovery Month
September is the 18th annual observance of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month with the theme, Join the Voices for Recovery: Saving Lives, Saving Dollars. Substance use disorders affect millions of people in every city and state across the country. While treatment for substance use disorders is cost effective, when untreated, these disorders can have a negative impact on state and local resources.
“The Behavioral Health Centers of Southern Iowa/Rathbun which has recently been certified to provide substance abuse treatment joins the nationwide celebration of people in recovery from substance use disorders and the treatment providers who help them reclaim their lives and reintegrate into their community,” Randy Drake, Treatment Program Director for the Behavioral Health Centers of Southern Iowa/Rathbun, stated.
Drake holds a masters degree in Professional Counseling and is credentialed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Advanced Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and National Certified Addictions Counselor II. He is President of the Iowa Association of Addiction Professionals, and member of NAADAC, the association for addiction professionals where he holds a position on the Board of Directors and just recently elected to the NAADAC Policy & Procedure Committee.
“A substance use disorder involves the dependence on, or abuse of, alcohol and/or drugs, including the non-medical use of prescription drugs,” according to Drake. “Substance use disorders can affect people regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, class, employment status, or standing within the community and are medical conditions that can be treated effectively,” he added
“Those who are affected with substance use disorders have traditionally been stigmatized in many negative ways,” Dave Hook, Chief Operating Officer of the Behavioral Health Centers of Southern Iowa/Rathbun stated. “Substance use disorders are chronic yet treatable illnesses. The Behavioral Health Centers of Southern Iowa/Rathbun is here to help those with this illness to recover.”
