Dr. Abel Cruz brings Depth of Expertise to CHCSI

In September, 2004, Dr Abel Cruz joined the Leon Family Clinic which has become the Community Health Centers of Southern Iowa.  Prior to coming to Decatur County, Dr. Cruz worked at Nebraska Methodist Hospital’s Geriatric Evaluation and Management Clinic and Methodist HealthWest Physicians Clinic as a Geriatric Medicine Consultant.  He was also Medical Director of Brookestone Village Skilled Nursing Facility in Omaha.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Rheumatology.  Certification means that a physician has successfully completed an approved educational and training program and a rigorously evaluation process designed to assess the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to provide quality patient care in that specialty.

Dr. Cruz received his medical education from the University of the Philippines.  His residency programs were completed at the State University of New York at Brooklyn (Internal Medicine), University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (Internal Medicine), State University of New York at Stony Brook (Geriatric Medicine Fellowship), and State University of New York at Stony Brook (Rheumatology Medicine Fellowship).
